~ defining classical mastery in our generation ~
"Hailed as the 'Giselle of our generation' by the Paris Gazette, Eleanor trained at the Royal Academy of Dance before joining us in 2016. Her gravity-defying extensions and deeply emotional character portrayals define the modern era of our company."
"Renowned for his brilliant high C and velvety mid-range, Alessandro is our premier choice for the dramatic Verdi and Puccini roles. He has graced the stages of Milan and Vienna, yet considers our grand theatre his true artistic home."
"An artist of unparalleled dramatic range, Genevieve's signature soprano voice has opened six consecutive seasons. Her performance of Violetta in La Traviata has set an international benchmark for emotional vulnerability and vocal agility."
The soul of the opera resides not only under the spotlights, but deep within the quiet chambers of our historical costume workshops. Since MDCCCXCVII, our atelier has preserved the ancient secrets of French hand-tailoring and dressmaking. Here, a single costume can take upwards of three hundred hours of precision craft.
Every thread of gold is woven by hand. Every piece of silk is imported from Lyon. Every sequin is secured to mimic the natural sparkle of theatrical gaslights. Our master artisans work in a chamber unchanged for generations, preserving a lineage of beauty that bridges the historical with the magical.
"Nous créons des rêves de soie et de velours pour habiller l'âme."

~ greetings from our correspondents ~
~ since MDCCCLXXV ~
By royal decree, the grand opera house opens its doors to the crowned heads of Europe. Architects and artisans from across the continent gather to witness the unveiling of the monumental staircase, marble colonnades, and ceiling frescoes painted by masters of the Belle Époque.
In MDCCCXCVII, the house formally establishes L'Atelier de Couture — a dedicated dressmaking workshop devoted entirely to operatic costume. Master seamstresses draft custom patterns in Lyon silk, while guild embroiderers apply gold-thread hand-stitching to every bodice, mantle, and coronet worn upon our stage.
An era-defining collaboration with Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes arrives in MCMX, bringing explosive modern choreography to our boards. The partnership forever marries the world's most dramatic orchestral scores with avant-garde physical performance and theatrical spectacle.
The legendary Maria Callas takes the stage for a transcendent production of Bellini's Norma, establishing the theatre as a premier world stage for dramatic soprano and bel canto operas.
A decade-long, meticulous restoration is completed at century's end. Master plasterers, guilders, and historians return twenty-four-karat gold leaf, velvet paneling, and the massive crystal chandelier to their original nineteenth-century splendour.
